Casa Mesa Cardeño

This project is the result of a partnership between architect Juan Pablo Mesa and me. Juan’s parents had been living abroad and were planning on returning to Colombia to enjoy retirement on the outskirts of Medellín. The brief asked for a main house, a house for the house keepers and stables. The site is located on a very narrow strip running horizontally along a steep slope. There is a predominant view towards a picturesque landscape and the length of the main house is set so that the most important spaces can enjoy it. The house is a long brick rectangle with a white volume on top. This faceted shape contains a mezzanine to the dining room and enjoys the best view of the house. Attached to the main house through the garage is another rectangle, placed as if it were a retaining wall on the slope and it is another rectangle housing the stables and the house for the house keepers.
