Casa Pulido González

This commission involved the design of a 450 sqmt home in the outskirts of Bogotá, in a town called La Calera. Its name, “lime quarry”, recalls the landscape, which is marked by prominent rock formations. The site is set within a suburban development, covering an area of 2250 sqmt, and on a steep topography. Views from the site are astonishing, but the main one, towards the valley of Sopó, is bypassed by the road of the development. The project addresses this issue, by raising the first level above a basement, and creating a natural barrier that blocks away the immediate view of the road. The view is left intact over the vegetation and can be enjoyed from within the main spaces. As the house is approached, there is a flight of stairs that leads to the main door, set aback the view of the valley. Once in the house, after passing through the entrance hall, one has to turn around and enter, towards the right hand side, the living and dining room, and towards the left hand side, the area of the dormitories. Only after being in these spaces, can you have another glance of the valley. Its main architectural feature, a stone-clad box, houses the entrance hall, the staircase for the master bedroom, and a place for meditation, especially commissioned by the client.
